Snake in My Purse ~
Poems by Mamou Academy alumni, West Africa
by Cathi
Crooks
There's a snake in my purse --
It's something I fear.
Not sure what to do but
it don't belong there.
There's a snake in my purse --
It's no big surprise.
I've ignored and neglected
the place where it lies.
There's a snake in my purse --
Not sure how it got in.
Could've been mine or
someone else's sin.
There's a snake in my purse --
Maybe two, three or more.
Only way to find out is
open up and pour.
There's a snake in my purse --
I now have no doubt.
And no matter how hard,
it has got to come out.
There's a snake in my purse --
It's a pretty sad thing.
But by letting it go
I'll have something to sing.
There's a snake in my purse --
It's something I fear.
But I bet it won't be there
by this time next year!
