Conundrum ~ A poem by Dale, a survivor of Rift Valley Academy, Kenya

I passed the door again the other day
     to the room of pain,
     and cracked it open once again.
And though I shut it fast
     against the overwhelming scream,
     the sound of terrified keeps echoing:
Invades my world, both wake and sleep.
     I struggle with desire to keep
     my life and functioning;
Against the will to go
     and hold the child,
     and let the scream
     that should have happened long ago.
