Dichotomies
of a Ten-Year Old ~
Poems by Mamou Academy alumni, West Africa

Crooks
Why is lying okay when you make me say I love you
but not when it was me who broke your vase?
I guess I don't know what that word means.
Why won't he forgive me if I tell what you did
when I'm also told that Jesus forgives ALL our sins?
But you're the grown-up; you must be right.
Why am I still not rescued
when I thought if I ask in his name I get what I prayed for?
Maybe I have to pray 70 times 7 too.
Why is dancing such an evil thing
when I get so much joy from doing it and David did it in front of
God?
I guess only men get to dance.
Why is it essential to eat everything on your plate even if you
don't want it
but the Bible says not to over-indulge?
Maybe there are two Bibles.
Why is it "beautiful music" when I play a hymn
but "disgusting noise" when I play a radio hit,
even though I feel God's pleasure no matter what I'm playing?
I guess there's two Gods also.
